The attack on a Moscow concert hall on 22 March 2024 was the worst in Russia for years. Days after President Vladimir Putin began his fifth term of office, gunmen stormed the complex, killing 145 people and injuring more than 500. The Islamic State group (IS) has said four of its members carried out the attack.

The March 22nd ISIS-K terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue in Moscow that killed over 130 people and injured hundreds more was the deadliest terrorist attack in Europe since the Beslan school siege in 2004. Immediately following the attack, ISIS publicly claimed responsibility.

Moscow is the capital and largest city of Russia. The city stands on the Moskva River in Central Russia, with a population estimated at over 13 million residents within the city limits, over 18.8 million residents in the urban area, and over 21.5 million residents in its metropolitan area.

The head of Russia's FSB security agency claimed Tuesday that Western and Ukrainian special services had aided the attackers who stormed a Moscow concert hall last week, killing dozens.
